Jennifer Takagi:

You be you. I'm Jennifer Takagi, the host of

Jennifer Takagi:

destin for success, and today I want to talk about Ubu, and I

Jennifer Takagi:

think it was attributed to Oscar Wilde. Part of me, but that's a

Jennifer Takagi:

little questionable. Did he really say that? I don't know.

Jennifer Takagi:

Maybe the concept was his, but the thought is, You be you

Jennifer Takagi:

because everybody else is taken. You be you because everybody

Jennifer Takagi:

else is taken. If you're on a journey of personal development,

Jennifer Takagi:

personal growth, like I am, I've been on it for a while, and if

Jennifer Takagi:

you're on it, you see people, and you're like, wow, like, I

Jennifer Takagi:

want to be like them. I want to show up like they do. When you

Jennifer Takagi:

think that, when you say that out loud, sometimes you're

Jennifer Takagi:

looking at social media people. I mean, I know I have from time

Jennifer Takagi:

to time, or I don't know, every day, but you're looking at them

Jennifer Takagi:

and their lives and what they're projecting to the world. And we

Jennifer Takagi:

have to keep in mind it may not be true, like there should could

Jennifer Takagi:

be some photo shopping going on. There could be editing of their

Jennifer Takagi:

lives. There was one person that was a big influencer, and I

Jennifer Takagi:

really started following and really appreciated what they

Jennifer Takagi:

were doing and how they were showing up in the world, and it

Jennifer Takagi:

all fell apart, and many parts of their life were not how they

Jennifer Takagi:

were portraying them through the world. There were was a lack of

Jennifer Takagi:

authenticity and truth behind what they were selling and how

Jennifer Takagi:

they were showing up. So you have to be a little bit careful

Jennifer Takagi:

on that. But one thing that I find kind of fun to do is look

Jennifer Takagi:

at other people and consider what attributes they have that

Jennifer Takagi:

you want to embody like they do that really well. I i would like

Jennifer Takagi:

to be more like that. A number of years ago, I was on a special

Jennifer Takagi:

task force team with the federal government, and we came together

Jennifer Takagi:

for a week for a boot camp to kick it off and figure out what

Jennifer Takagi:

on earth we were doing and why we were there. And there was

Jennifer Takagi:

this one woman that just was very appealing to me, like her

Jennifer Takagi:

whole demeanor, how she showed up, how she shared information.

Jennifer Takagi:

I was like, wow. Like, I want to be more like her. She just seems

Jennifer Takagi:

so polished and brilliant. And after a couple nights, we all

Jennifer Takagi:

went across the street from the building where we were working,

Jennifer Takagi:

and had dinner and drinks, and everybody from the group had,

Jennifer Takagi:

like, vanished. Somebody went to smoke, somebody went to the

Jennifer Takagi:

bathroom, somebody went to the bar, like whatever. Everybody

Jennifer Takagi:

kind of scattered. And she and I were the last two at the table,

Jennifer Takagi:

and we had taken the Myers Briggs Personality profile exams

Jennifer Takagi:

or assessments, I guess, and we were going to find out the next

Jennifer Takagi:

day the results of our assessment, and I hadn't taken

Jennifer Takagi:

one before. And we were also going to find out what teams we

Jennifer Takagi:

were on. There were five of us, and we were going to be in teams

Jennifer Takagi:

of three and another team of two. And so when this gal and I

Jennifer Takagi:

ended up being the last two at the table for a few minutes, I

Jennifer Takagi:

said, you know, I just, I just want you to know that I think

Jennifer Takagi:

that when these results come out, we are going to be polar

Jennifer Takagi:

opposites, and I hope I'm on a team with you, because I think I

Jennifer Takagi:

have a lot to learn from you. And she looked at me, and she

Jennifer Takagi:

goes, That is so funny that you would say that, because I was

Jennifer Takagi:

thinking, Jennifer and I are probably polar opposites, and I

Jennifer Takagi:

would love to be on a team with her. And voila, we both got our

Jennifer Takagi:

wishes, our dreams came true, our results came out. And I

Jennifer Takagi:

don't know the lettering for Myers Briggs, but on the far

Jennifer Takagi:

left of the chart was extremely introverted, and on the far

Jennifer Takagi:

right of the chart was extreme extroverted. And lo and behold,

Jennifer Takagi:

she was far left, introverted, and I was far right,

Jennifer Takagi:

extroverted. And the third amazing member of our team was

Jennifer Takagi:

one point over the line of being extrovert, and she raised her

Jennifer Takagi:

hand and said, Can I change my score? Because I think I'm an

Jennifer Takagi:

introvert. And we all laughed, and they said, Yes, of course,

Jennifer Takagi:

you can change your score. You can be whatever you want to be,

Jennifer Takagi:

but she really was. She really was right on that cusp. And to

Jennifer Takagi:

be clear on the definition and the difference between an

Jennifer Takagi:

extrovert and an introvert, it's how you recharge yourself, how

Jennifer Takagi:

you refuel. So think of an introvert as the person who

Jennifer Takagi:

might go to the coffee shop and read a magazine, cover to cover,

Jennifer Takagi:

and never say a word to anyone other than when they place their

Jennifer Takagi:

order. They are being refueled, re energized by spending time by

Jennifer Takagi:

themselves, reading a book, reading a magazine, the

Jennifer Takagi:

newspaper. Maybe it's watching TV, I don't know, but they're

Jennifer Takagi:

doing it by themselves. They're not interacting with people.

Jennifer Takagi:

People seem to pull their energy and drain them. Flip Side,

Jennifer Takagi:

extrovert, I would train all day, literally on my feet,

Jennifer Takagi:

talking, training all day long, and then I wanted to know where

Jennifer Takagi:

we were going for dinner and drinks, because my cup is filled

Jennifer Takagi:

by being around people, interacting with people. Now, I

Jennifer Takagi:

go days at a time when I never walk out of my house and I never

Jennifer Takagi:

see a soul physically, in person, I'm on Zoom calls and

Jennifer Takagi:

I'm on telephone calls. I'm working with clients and stuff,

Jennifer Takagi:

but I'm not necessarily physically with somebody, and

Jennifer Takagi:

that doesn't bother me at all. I have friends who are like, Oh my

Jennifer Takagi:

gosh, I had to get outside. I'd been inside all day, and I was

Jennifer Takagi:

like, it's 105 in Oklahoma. I don't need to go outside the

Jennifer Takagi:

mail. Can wait like I don't need to go out there, but I do get

Jennifer Takagi:

energized talking to people. If you've been following for a

Jennifer Takagi:

while, you might know that I had my knee replaced in a few months

Jennifer Takagi:

ago, and it's been a little slower recovery than last one,

Jennifer Takagi:

which the last one I bounced back very quickly. This one's

Jennifer Takagi:

been a little slower, which irritates me to no end. And the

Jennifer Takagi:

doctor keeps saying, Oh, it's fine. It's fine. You know, every

Jennifer Takagi:

surgery is different, every recovery is different. And I

Jennifer Takagi:

said, Well, I'm done with this. He just laughs at me and says,

Jennifer Takagi:

you know, whatever is going to happen when it happens. But even

Jennifer Takagi:

though I'm an extreme extrovert, I'm fine being home alone, like

Jennifer Takagi:

that's okay. I don't have to be with people. I don't have to go

Jennifer Takagi:

out all the time, but I also don't mind going out all the

Jennifer Takagi:

time and seeing people and being with friends and family. So

Jennifer Takagi:

that's the difference between an extrovert and an introvert. An

Jennifer Takagi:

introvert recharges being alone extrovert recharges being with

Jennifer Takagi:

people. That's the difference. So this friend of mine, as I'm

Jennifer Takagi:

looking at her qualities, I'm like, I want to be more like

Jennifer Takagi:

that. I want to be a little bit more thoughtful

Jennifer Takagi:

before I answer or respond. I want to do just a little bit

Jennifer Takagi:

more research

Jennifer Takagi:

before I make a final decision. Those are some qualities of hers

Jennifer Takagi:

that I really appreciated. Those were qualities I didn't have,

Jennifer Takagi:

but the great qualities I did have is I very easily could

Jennifer Takagi:

extemporaneously speak on the topic, I could engage the

Jennifer Takagi:

participants and get them to engage and share I I'll just say

Jennifer Takagi:

I've been very proud when I've been training a room of 3035

Jennifer Takagi:

people, and every single person interacts and engages at some

Jennifer Takagi:

point throughout the day, that's a big deal, because sometimes

Jennifer Takagi:

you go to those things and people won't say a word to

Jennifer Takagi:

anyone. Not every person raised their hand and spoke out loud,

Jennifer Takagi:

but every person shared, at least within their table. And I

Jennifer Takagi:

think that's a big win. I take that as a really big win. So I

Jennifer Takagi:

do that well. I do public speaking well. This podcast has

Jennifer Takagi:

been going for a while, and I think it's going pretty well. So

Jennifer Takagi:

there are a lot of those communication training things

Jennifer Takagi:

that I do really well. So when I line that up against the

Jennifer Takagi:

attributes of people that I see, that I admire, that I want to

Jennifer Takagi:

embody some of their qualities, that's great, but if I make a

Jennifer Takagi:

list of their qualities, and unless a list of the things I

Jennifer Takagi:

already do, well, it's super fun to see how they align, and I

Jennifer Takagi:

encourage you to do that too. Why? Because you're probably not

Jennifer Takagi:

missing the mark by as much as you think they are, spend a

Jennifer Takagi:

little bit of time figuring out where you align, how much you

Jennifer Takagi:

align, and then on the things that you want to build. Build

Jennifer Takagi:

this skill. Nobody came out of the womb being really good at

Jennifer Takagi:

anything. We might have a propensity to be a little better

Jennifer Takagi:

at some skills than others, but for the most part, we need to

Jennifer Takagi:

learn how to do it. So decide what skill is it that I would

Jennifer Takagi:

like to build up and do better so that I can show up better in

Jennifer Takagi:

the world make a greater impact? Act as I create the life of my

Jennifer Takagi:

dreams. I promise you were destined for more success than

Jennifer Takagi:

you have ever even imagined, and now it's time to go for it. I'm

Jennifer Takagi:

Jennifer Takagi with destined for success. I look forward to

Jennifer Takagi:

connecting with you soon. Book a call with me on your success

Jennifer Takagi:
